Switches and dimming: which dimmer and driver suit an LED load?

Updated:

Switches and dimming covers the three components that decide LED behaviour below 30 per cent brightness: the dimmer waveform, the driver dimming range and the connected load in watts. Trailing edge modules cost 90 to 180 AED and work from 3 W, while retail leading edge modules need 20 W minimum.

Dimming without flicker: the three parts that decide it

Trailing edge dimmers maintain LED output down to 10 per cent and cost 90 to 180 AED per module, while leading edge dimmers stall near 30 per cent and buzz at 100 Hz. A group of four 4 W downlights creates a 16 W load, below the 20 W minimum load and therefore the usual cause of flicker. The guide to dimming without flicker explains how the dimmer, driver and connected load work together.
